Road Biking

Enjoy road biking?  The roads around Telluride provide cyclists with great views and steep hills.  There are several popular out and back rides including riding from Telluride to Ophir, Ridgway and Ouray.  The best season for riding is late Spring until mid Fall.  During the winter the roads are narrow with snowbanks and icing conditions creating dangerous cycling.

One popular long ride is along the San Juan Skyway.  This stretch of road creates a loop that passes through Ridgway, Silverton, Durango, Mancos, Cortez, Dolores, Rico and Telluride.   To access the loop take Highway 145 south from Telluride.  This ride provides you with high elevation, steep hills and great views.  Also, it is very historical with gold mines and railway stations along the way.  Pay extra attention as you descend the road as there tend to be steep cliffs.  This loop is a multi day adventure for most or could be ridden in sections.

Looking for a more family friendly ride?  Check out the Telluride bike path.  This path is easy riding along a 3 mile paved, two lan path.  It runs parallel to Highway 145 and ends at the Society Drive turn.
