As
we write this installment of our newsletter, summer has come to a close
and the aspen leaves have transformed from green to bright orange and fallen
to the trails. We’ve had a mixed bag of fall weather,
with a lot of moisture recently and one crazy storm that covered
the ski mountain with 16 inches of snow in late September!
Things remain busy on the real estate front with nine single family
homes currently under contract in Telluride and Mountain Village and
over 40 condos contracted in both towns. Additionally, the announcement
that Rosewood will be joining the ranks of hoteliers in Mountain Village
has been an exciting one. While the facility itself is still facing
final approval, this new hotel project on Country Club Drive is scheduled
for completion in 2009.

“Ultra
luxury” is coming to Mountain Village in 2009 by way of
Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. Rosewood CEO John Scott emphasized
his company’s exclusivity – it
currently operates only 15 hotels worldwide, and is adding only one or two a
year – at a reception Monday at which the project developer, Aaron Honigman,
made the announcement that Rosewood would be their operator.
Rosewood, Scott said, specializes in unique luxury properties, each with its
own strong sense of place.

“It’s called Palm Presents,” said Joanne Evans,
managing director for the Michel D. Palm Theatre Performing Arts Center. “We
decided to keep it simple.” The simple name may belie the actual performances
booked for the upcoming season, which include a dramatic drum ensemble and
the St. Petersburg Ballet.
Evans said the Palm’s schedule was highly dependent on “what
shows were coming through the area,” she said, and “then
we booked fantastic shows the audience will absolutely love.” Evans,
who started at the Palm in June, previously worked for the performing
arts center at the University of Wisconsin Parkside, and brought
with her numerous contacts in the industry. Those contacts have
helped attract groups to the Palm that may have otherwise skipped
over the venue.
