A big storm that began on March 7 brought winter back to Telluride and put smiles on a lot of local’s faces as the skiing made a marked improvement after a period of warm weather and melting snow. The snow continued to fall through the weekend, dropping over three feet. Hooray for March storms!
A few weeks before that, in a Valentine’s day vote, the town of Telluride opted to pursue condemnation of the valley floor, rejecting a negotiated framework for settlement with the San Miguel Valley Corporation (see story below). The vote seems to have ended the bulk of the discourse that divided the town. Currently the Town Council and its attorneys are on track for a valuation trial in February 2007, if not sooner.

If it wasn’t quite clear enough after two votes, it should be after three: Telluride wants no development on the south side of the Valley Floor.
A ballot question referred by the Telluride Town Council seeking to allow, among other things, limited residential development on the Valley Floor’s south side as part of a mediated settlement with the San Miguel Valley Corp., owner of the Valley Floor, was convincingly answered in the negative in Tuesday’s special election. By a 27 percent margin, 603-439, the “no” vote prevailed.

They say the third time’s the trick, but for Monument Realty, developer of the proposed condominium project on Lot 161CR, adjacent to the Gondola Plaza in Mountain Village and possible future home of a recreational activity center, round three of its conceptual plan review with the Mountain Village Design Review Board did not end with the green light that was hoped for.
