Summer has flown by with the monsoonal weather pattern making Telluride one of the coolest places in the country in recent weeks. Real estate sales, however, have been hot. The July numbers from Telluride Consulting showed a record-setting month and the year to date dollar volume of sales in San Miguel County exceeded last year’s record high by seven percent. With this has come record contributions to, and distributions from, the First Time Homebuyer’s Assistance Fund, a program designed to help locals purchase homes and one Real Estate Affiliates enthusiastically supports (see story).
Around town, the Telluride Jazz festival brought in large numbers of listeners for great headliners such as the Herbie Hancock Quintet. In the coming weeks, Telluride plays host to the newer Culinary Festival (Aug 18-20) and the annual Film Festival over Labor Day Weekend.
If you are already starting to think about skiing, the news that the non-stop flight from Phoenix to Montrose has been reinstated for the upcoming winter season, as well as new flights on Delta from Atlanta and Salt Lake City, should get you even more excited. We hope the increased options in flights will bring more new faces to town and make getting here a bit easier for old hands.

| Telluride-To-Phoenix Air Service This Winter
The Telluride Watch
Published:7/28/06
By Christopher Pike
America West/U.S. Air will renew its winter service between Telluride
Regional Airport and Phoenix this winter with two daily non-stop
flights, beginning December 15, 2006, with a 37-passenger Dash
8 aircraft operating the Telluride-to-Phoenix air service through
March 31, 2007.
“We’re pleased that America West/USAir will be serving
the Telluride Airport this coming winter,” said Telluride
Montrose Regional Air Organization President Tom Hess.
Hess went on to pronounce the Telluride-to-Phoenix route as benefiting
“both Telluride local residents and visitors alike,”
while at the same time “providing great connections to other
destinations in Arizona, Southern California and the West Coast.”

A Commitment to Competitive Pricing
The Telluride Watch
Published: 8/15/06
By Martinique Davis
Gazing out across aisles of perfectly aligned products gleaming against the squeaky clean interior of the just-opened Market at Mountain Village, shoppers by and large appeared impressed with the town’s newest community perk.
“I’ve been waiting twenty years for this,” Mountain Village resident Carlotta Horn said, as she and her two high school-aged daughters loaded their cart full of provisions for their upcoming Lake Powell trip.
Fellow Mountain Village homeowner Allison O’Dell, while pushing wide-eyed, 3-year-old Sean past the meat counter stocked with such delicacies as wild caught crab legs, fresh lobster tails and rows of thick New York strip steaks, said the new grocery store reminded her of a small-scale Whole Foods or other gourmet organic market – one typically found in a much bigger city.

The Telluride Watch
Published:8/11/06
Being a local in Telluride is something people take very seriously. It means you really live here, it means you really work here and it means that you really appreciate what it means to be here. Since June 2002, the Telluride Association of Realtors has helped make dreams come true for Telluride-area locals by furthering opportunities toward purchasing homes in the region. Through its First Time Homebuyer’s Assistance Fund program, TAR continuously softens the financial commitment associated with buying a home for the first time.
“It is fantastic to be able to support a record amount of locals in their purchase of a Telluride home,” said Teddy Errico, FTHBAF committee chair. “And I believe the Telluride brokerage community finds great pleasure in giving back financially in order to keep the Telluride locals ‘local.’”
